Mathi Manga Fish Curry or Sardine Raw Mango Fish Curry is one of the extremely simple fish curries of Kerala. Kerala is famous for its awesome seafood. Before trying this recipe, make sure you have a mud pot, but you can try this on any vessel. Mudpot is the best as it gives the earthen flavor that nothing can match. A mud pot is the best for any south Indian recipe, so you should have a mud pot at home.

Mathi Manga Fish Curry or Sardine Raw Mango Fish Curry

Sardine fish 1/2 Kg
Raw mango 1 no. (chopped into chunks)
Red chili powder 1 tsp
Green chilies 3 nos. (slit)
Turmeric powder 1 tsp
Ginger (finely chopped) 2 tsp
Water 1 cup (150 ml)
Grated coconut 1 cup (150 ml) – ground into a smooth paste.
Salt to taste
Coconut oil 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
Red chilies 2 nos.
Finely chopped onion shallots 5 nos.

1. In a mud pot, cook the raw mango chunks, add chili powder, green chilies, turmeric powder, ginger, and salt. Cook till the mango boils adding some water.
2. Once the mango is cooked, add the coconut paste. Let is boil
3. Add the cleaned fish pieces. Cook for 5 minutes. Keep checking if the fish is cooked as sardine fish gets cooked fast.
4. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, red chili, curry leaves and small onions. Add this seasoning to the cooked curry.
Serve hot with cooked rice.
